Husker Du--"Eight Miles High", "Something I Learned Today", "Never Talking To You Again".
All cool songs. Man, I wish I had gotten to see them back in the day. Maybe if I hadn't 'a' gotten put into that stupid shithole I might've seen them. My friends went to all those shows. I remember before I got out buying a 45 of Eight Miles High. (Back then I'm not even sure if I recognized it as a Byrds tune.) I'm not sure what it had on the other side. "Something I Learned Today" is the first song on Zen Arcade. I love that song, definitely a good opener. I like that whole album a lot.

I also LUV "Terms of Psychic Warfare", "Flip Your Wig", and "Love Is All Around (theme to the 'Mary Tyler Moore Show')".

RIP Dickie Peterson
« Reply #3424 on: October 12, 2009, 03:13:27 PM »
Dickie Peterson, the bassist/vocalist and founding member of BLUE CHEER, passed away this morning (Monday, October 12) at 5 a.m. in Germany. He was 61 years old.

Although the cause of Peterson's death has not been released, he had reportedly been battling cancer for the past several months.

BLUE CHEER was an American blues-rock band that initially performed and recorded in the late 1960s and early 1970s, and has been sporadically active since. Based in San Francisco, BLUE CHEER played in a psychedelic blues-rock style, and was also credited for pioneering heavy metal (their cover of "Summertime Blues" is sometimes cited as the first in the genre), punk rock, stoner rock, doom metal and grunge.

Throughout his life, Peterson's relationship to music has been all-consuming. He was quoted as saying, "I've been married twice, I've had numerous girlfriends, and they'll all tell you that if I'm not playing music I am an animal to live with. . . Music is a place where I get to deal with a lot of my emotion and displaced energy. I always only wanted to play music, and that's all I still want to do."

Despite the fact that BLUE CHEER was considered a pioneer in many different genres, Peterson downplayed the band's influence, stating in an interview, "People keep trying to say that we're heavy metal or grunge or punk, or we're this or that. The reality is we're just a power trio and we play ultra-blues, and it's rock 'n' roll. It's really simple what we do."

Peterson spent much of the past two decades based in Germany, performing with BLUE CHEER and with other groups as well. In 1998 and 1999, he played a number of dates in Germany with the HANK DAVISON BAND and as an acoustic duo with Hank Davison under the banner DOS HOMBRES.

Blue Cheer--"The Hunter", "Come And Get It"

The Kinks--"See My Friends", "'Til The End Of The Day", "I'm Not Like Everybody Else"

Nomads--"I'm Not Like Everybody Else" (kinda weird, doing a cover song about being unique, but a damn good version)

Sure does. Although it's asterisked as a "bonus track".

Not sure why. I had SSM when I was a teen, and I remember knowing the song mental hopscotch. Maybe it used to be on their first album, Missing Persons? I had that one, too.

BTW, I just found out that SSM is out of print. Went to get it today at Amoeba. The collectible version, apparently. (1995 re-release). It was the only one there, so I was forced to get that copy. (I think someone wanted it, it was misfiled under mission UK. I do that trick myself.)  You can get the cheaper CD printings for less on amazon. (There's a japanese import, too.)

The CD track listings are exactly the same, with the exception of the import, which only has 12 songs, not 14.

EDIT: Oh man, I'm listening to US Drag. I forgot how much I loved that song. I haven't heard this album in about 24 years.

Masters of Reality live video on youtube........here's another one for ya: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gJ1SKrSy ... re=related

Check out the rythm guitarist(playing the SG).  He is fucking into it.........is that Josh Homme  (from QOTSA)?  I know Masters of Reality has a lineup that changes a lot, but I'm not sure who that is playing rythm on this vid.

I encourage all of you to ingest copious quantities of drugs and check out MoR (it worked for me, and I was attempting suicide every year or so.......gotta see if there's a viddy for "Kill The King" ("Eradicus--kill the king.....Magenta....kill the king".....)  That's my personal fave by these guys.

LONG LIVE STONER RAWK !!!!!!!!!

Hüsker Dü--Zen Arcade

Richard Thompson:
_Can't Win
_I Still Dream

I saw Richard Thompson perform in an auditorium at Goucher College last night! Just him and an acoustic guitar. He played a phenomenal set!! Loudon Wainwright III played and sang too (together with RT and separately). I've been into Richard Thompson's music for ten years or so, and it sure was great to finally witness his genius on stage!!!

Fairport Convention- Genesis Hall

The Replacements- Takin' a Ride

I've seen him a couple of times and he definitely puts on a great show.  Saw him open for Bonnie Raitt in Santa Barbara in '89, and in St. Petersburg (at the old Club Detroit) in 1990.  A tremendously underrated guitarist.

Goddam right... I didn't know you had seen him!

Do you have any of his albums right now? Just curious, I've been wanting to hear more stuff by him since the other night, and there are so many!

Were the sets you saw electric or acoustic?
