Lola's on Lola vs. Powerman and the Moneygoround, Part 1.  Never was a part 2.  There are tons of Kinks compilations out there, one of the newest and best is the Definitive Collection or The Ultimate Kinks

Definitive Collection has 48 seeders on Demonoi...Wait!  No, I would never encourage...Then again, the Brothers Davies don't make a dime off the old tunes.  Publisher fucked 'em...

Thanks!  :D Hopefully I'll be able to get hold of one of those CDs real soon.

The Steel Drivers
« Reply #1997 on: May 08, 2007, 03:14:44 PM »
One of my co-workers plays in this band, the Steel Drivers.  I don't normally like Bluegrass, but this is really good stuff.  It's certainly not the high and whiny stuff, and the lyrics are considerably darker.  They're all really good musicians.  The mandolin player, Mike Henderson, is a great guitar player, too, so good that Mark Knopfler took him on the road for his last world tour.  The singer, Chris Stapleton, has a killer voice.

They've been signed to Rounder Records.  Here's their MySpace:

Let me know what you guys think of it, and I'll pass it on to the bass player.  The sooner people start buying the CD, the sooner I'm rid of the bastard...  :D  :)

Nah, only joking!

Which station are you listening to?  Sounds like they play some good stuff!  You can PM that to me, if you want.  Cheers!

Steppenwolf- 'The Millenium Collection'  (a good 'best of' of their best stuff)    sorry...that just seemed the 'best' way to explain it... I'll stop now...

I heard 'Born to be Wild' on the radio today and my son (3 1/2) started rockin' out to it.  I mean, afterall, it's HIS song (I've sung it to him since he was about a year old) and he knows all the words to it.  It was so funny to see his shear excitement in hearing the song on the radio...kinda got me in the mood for more Steppenwolf.

Well, I like bluegrass in moderation and since coming back 'home', I REALLY like it.

They are good!  I love the guy's voice!  I think they could 'make it', if they get the right producer.  Looks like they already have a bunch of fans, too.

THAT made the bass player happy.  Thanks for the feedback.  They've got a good producer, at some point they'll work with Buddy Miller from Emmylou Harris's band.

Grinderman is Nick Cave's new band, it's the best thing he's done in ages.  "Chain of Flowers" sounds like a Velvet Underground outtake.  Really good stuff.

The monkey on the cover looks like he's in pain, poor little sod, holding his groin area.
