Got that LP, maybe it'll be a threesome!

All kinds of good music playing today!  Big Star would sound good now.  I wish I could catch Pere Ubu playing some time.  I missed the RFTC reunion completely.  Ever hear Living Colour do Final Solution?  It's alright.

No, I haven't heard Living Color do that, I'll check that out.  Speaking of covers, my roommate is waaaaay into the Melvins, and today I heard their cover of "Green Manalishi (w/ the Two-Pronged Crown) originally done by Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac, but popularized by metal fruits Judas Priest on their live album, Unleashed In The East.  Damn good stuff, I must say.

I had heard some Pere Ubu, not much, before I saw them open for Black Francis & Co.  That show blew me away, they were the only redeeming moment from that show.  The Pixies played two songs and left the stage, the3 show was oversold and the stage was falling apart.  THis was at the Milk Bar in Jacksonville, FL on the Trompe Le Monde tour.  My girlfriend found a way backstage, where we trashed the place 'cause we were so pissed about the show.  I pretty much blame the venue, they sold wristbands outside for $30 to what was an already sold-out show, I got my money back for the tickets, and saw Pere Ubu for free.  Cool enough.

Been listening to:

THe Gun Club--'She's Like Heroin To Me"

The Cynics--"Baby What's Wrong"

Television Personalities--"Psychedelic Holiday"

Mirrors--"We'll See"

Reagan Youth--"Are You Happy?"

Mudhoney--"This Is The Life"

I don't think there's any Big Star or Alex Chilton stuff I don't have.  All great stuff.

I saw the Melvins a few years back with Melt Banana as the opening band.  I don't know if you've heard of Melt Banana, you guys probably have.  Japanese band two girls, two guys, guitarist plays with a surgeon's mask on.  Thirty second songs, little Japanese girl shrieking...as soon as the songs came to an abrupt halt, the singer would smile shyly and say "Thank you".  About the only English she knew.

That's a pretty accurate description of Melt Banana.  My roommate, the Melvins fiend, has video footage of Melt Banana from that show.  "Thirty second songs, little Japanese girl shrieking...." yeah, that's about it.

Personally,. when I wanna hear Japs play some sort of music, I prefer 5678s, or maybe Acid Mothers Temple , if I'm in a psychedelic mood.  Melt Banan are fun in a novelty act sort of way, though.

Yeah, I heard of them from their song "Blue Oyster Cult", about getting food poisoning from eating bad oysters at a party.

One of the best songs ever recorded: Goodnight Saigon by Billy Joel
Particularly poignant in the live version: http://http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZpRuKyksxks

Is it odd that war songs seem to mean so much to me?
