Monks Of Doom
« Reply #1337 on: December 26, 2006, 08:35:23 AM »
When Camper Van Beethoven split up, the members went on to form two other bands, David Lowery starting Cracker Soul/Cracker and Victor Krummacher, Johnathan Segal, and others forming Monks Of Doom. Monks Of Doom aree my favorite of the three, they have the instrumental musicianship of CVB without the overly whimsical side, and I can see where they are often compared to King Crimson.  They can be heavier and a lil darker than CVB, and to be honest, David Lowery's vocals with CVB got annoying after a while.  I like Dracker a good bit, though, I think their country-tinged rock songs are a better vehicle for him vocally and instrumentally.  I still like CVB, but not as much as I used to and not as much as the later bands.

Anyway, here's a link to a streaming audience recording of a Monks Of Doom show or three....

(check out the covers of "Oh Well", originally done by Peter Green-era Fleetwood Mac, the same guy who wrote "Black Magic Woman" and "Green Manlishi w/ the Two-Pronged Crown" and "The Vivian Girls" by Snakefinger/The Residents)

If you would have justice in this world, then begin to see that a human being is not a means to some end.  People are not commodities.  When human beings are just to one another government becomes obsolete and real freedom is born; SPIRITUAL ANARCHY.
