What history proves it? Art wasn't the only one. Let's see, there was Joe Ricci and Bob Meehan, Mel Wasserman and whoever started out Phoenix House, Daytop, Delancy Street and, I'm sure, many others who's names don't spring to mind. Every last one a common street thug, a mugger who got better both at technique and at managing their proceeds.
