It seems that either staff was really actually stupid, or they had in fact become evil.

My thing was that I was never put in Straight for 'drug addiction'. my dad put me in there for attitude adjustment or 'dry addiction' as I had never used drugs. During the time of my stay, all of it, I was always given therapy as if I'd had drug addiction. AFter the first couple of years though not even the patients could believe I was still there. They would look at me and wonder why I motivated, so would staff. They would ask me why I was there at all.

I to was there for my druggie attitude. I now find out that most of the staff knew I had no problem with drugs. Now the thing iI can't figure is why they made such an effort to make admit I had a problem. The strange thing is they all knew the stories I told in group were bulshit.

What would you say to those who say that forgiveness is yet another tool of the oppressor to legitimate and absolve them of their crimes?

I would say that forgiveness is devine, but forgetfulness is just a mental dysfunction.

Hell yeah, I remember staff lying to and about me all the time. You could always tell when they were lying because they moved their lips.

But were they evil? Hell yeah, they were. Even the ones who didn't know it and who still don't know it to this day. Self delusion doesn't really sanctify anything. If anything, it makes someone more dangerous because, as Lewis said, "The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those that torment us for our own good will torment us without end, for they do so with the approval of their own conscience."

That's why I think it's pointless to try and isolate the guilty from the innocent and punish the evil doers. We're all fucking guilty. Don't you get that yet? Whatever ways we may have come up w/ to resist and subvert the process, it was a fairly tight system run by adept mind fuckers and they were able to turn it to their advantage most of the time and fairly easily, too. So if you fought, that helped fuck w/ people. If you complied, that helped (obviously). If you tried to skate by, that helped them. Even if you ran successfully, even that they'd spin as "See? We told you he/she was outa control!"

The entire program is a lie. There is no "right" way to change a person's beliefs and behavior against their will. It's a patently wrong thing to do. Any normal person subject to such treatment will resist and subvert it in various ways, then the system responds to put down the resistance and subversion, then it escalates from there till yet another sacrificial goat like Art and Virgil and Loretta and on and on gets thrown to the wolves and they can go back pretending that they've solved their problem. But the problem IS the basic TC model. It never comes out any better than this.

And he'll have been through the seminars, so after he finds some adjectives for his magical child and does a rockstar dance, he'll become "real" just like the Velveteen Rabbit.
