Straight, Inc. Stoughton MA
« on: January 17, 2006, 01:08:00 PM »
My boyfriend was a victim/prisoner of straight, inc in stoughton for 35 days. During that time he copped out and was caught and dragged back 3 times. I dont need to tell you guys the abuse from the group he took for attempted cop outs. He finally got wise that he might be able to escape at 18 and he pretended he loved it for the final 12 days. On his 18th birthday (day 35) he took his seat in the front row. The moment group started he held up 3 finger - "W" for withdraw and when the 5th phaser came over he said "Im 18 and I want out". The brought him a pice of paper and a clip board and told him to wrte down what he wanted. He wrote "I am being held against my will and I want out Immediatly". He said they kep trying to hold him in the office and he basically fought his way out as they tried to detain him and get a court order to keep him in. He ran out of the parking lot just in time to see his father and brother come roaring up around the corner. He escaped and eventually convinced his parents it was not for him. Reading these posts help me understand because there is a lot he wont talk about. I feel for all of you. I saw a video of people "motivating" and it was like watching a bad horror movie - like invasion of the body snatchers.
On another note - someone else from Straight passed away. For those of you from Stoughton, MA - if you remember Chris Bartoloni (maybe 87 - 89)I am sorry to tell you he died Friday or Saturday.

If anyone from Stoughton cares to share their experiences - please respond.

Thanks

Thanks for your thoughtful post.

I remember a few folks from Boston from before the Boston program opened.  We were all in VA.  It's way cool that you come here and post and are interested enough to care... orrrr... care enough to be interested.  Your boyfriends' story is crazy but rings true.  Peace 'n' strength.

If you would have justice in this world, then begin to see that a human being is not a means to some end.  People are not commodities.  When human beings are just to one another government becomes obsolete and real freedom is born; SPIRITUAL ANARCHY.

Thanks for the feedback.

My boyfriends buddy went to Straight in Virginia first before Boston opened. I think he went in around 86. Last name Jones. He came to Boston when Boston opened as a 5th phaser I think. He still knows all the songs and will sing them on cue. They used to have to sing "we are the world, we are the children" at open mic night. My sweetheart is now 37 and still is afraid of Straight.

Hi. I was in Straight Virginia and stoughton. My name is Denisha. I was frinds with Bartoloni and Jones, as we were all from Scituate, ma.

I'm glad you're talking about this. It's so creepy, but necessary to have these discussions.

Anyone remember a girl named Julie M. from Stoughton?  She was there around 85 or 86.

I have heard of Jones. Everyone says he is an oka good guy. I think he is married with kids now. I also know a Matt N. from Braintree - maybe 5th phaser? Chris Bartoloni passed away. He was buried Friday. Very sad - only 36. Straight sounds to me worse than prison. I hope you are at peace with your straight experiences. It must have been way tougher for a girl. God bless.

Straight was a nightmare that haunts so many while thy are awake. I heard that in Mass it was licensed as a foster home - not a rehab. Lots of articles compare it to North Korean war time brain washing techniques. I am surprised so few know about it but I guess it is not something you can talk about with anyone. 1988 - 1991?Thats a long time. Did you actually 7th step? Did you believe the hype? Do you feel they helped or harmed you? Hope these questions aren't to personal...

Hi Dreamer

I don't mean to be nosy, but it doesn't seem like you were in Straight. I'm just surprised that anyone outside a) knows about it, and b) cares. No offense.

I was in Stoughton with all the kids from Scituate, five of us, me, Bartoloni, Jones, my brother Sean, and Tommy Russo. I'd be happy to answer any questions you have in particular, since you seem to want information.

I am not overly angry about it anymore. Honestly, it was like being in a war. We did what we had to in order to survive the thought reprogramming scheme. Read George Orwell 1984, or Animal Farm. It's pretty similar stuff. I escaped. I wont let those fascisits have any more of my life, so I try not to dwell on it.

Thanks for being an outsider interested in this. I think so many of us feel like noone knows or cares about what happened to us in the warehouse of systematic abuse.

Please write me at Squirrel@nednugent.com if I want you to ask any questions.

Denisha (Virginin 84-85, and Stoughton 85-87)

Hi Dreamer:

I was in Stoughton 85-87. I was with four other kids from Scituate, we all just got sucked up one day and loced away for a long time.

It was me (Denisha), Sean, (my bro), Jones, Bartoloni and Russo.

Listen, if you need any answers please e-mail me. Squirrel@nednugent.com You seem interested in the horrors of Straight, which is more than I can say for the rest of the world.

Did you go to Bartoloni's wake? I cried for four days, and finally decided I couldn't go, so I went out to the end of the island I live on, the part that faces Europe, and said my goodbyes, and blew them off into sea.

Hope your honey is well. I know how he feels.

Hello,
Recently I have been looking online at info about Straight, which I haven't done before. I graduated in 89 from New England, and went on to be staff there for a couple years. As I hope you can imagine, its with great mixed emotions that I remember. I understand and empathize with the pain and trauma people experienced there, at times it was beyond words. It took me years to adjust, and unlearn how I had been taught to "help people". I do need to say that the program saved my life. It radically changed my parents life as well. I have been sober for 17 years, and achieved things I never thought I would. I do attribute alot of my success in life to the 15 months I was at Straight. One thing that was different was that I went in at 19 by my own choice. I think that makes all the difference in the world. I truely wanted to be there, because I needed what they had to get my life back. I'd love to talk to people about it, or hear other comments. I'm reaching out in the spirit of peace and love.

Thank you Denisha. Thank you very much. I am trying to understand the experiences my love had in that hateful place. I have a lot to learn but I am not sure how far to go. Too learn to much may violate secrets he is not ready to share.

I think anyone who is involved with someone who suffered Straight should care about it. It is like having gone to war - and I believe that place left deep scars; hence this website and all the others. He talks about it but in small doses... I love him and am interested in all the experiences he had (good or bad) that made him the man he is today.

I will save your email if that is ok - and will be writing soon.

Thanks for letting a Straight "Spouse" share in your experiences.
