In AARC we had "fess up" or "confession" raps, which different then the confessions going ont welve hours a day these were just to fess up to rules we'd broken. I'm sure Straight and Kids had these too. Well I never "fessed up" to it in AARC but on level three I found my old CD's and stuffed a Nine Inch Nails album down my pants, which on later levels I'd listen to on my discman at night. *sigh* must have been the downfall of me right? Nine Inch Nails were after all "Against Gods Will" for me.

Someone said "raps" were used in The Seed? I'll post for a confirmation on their board. I was mostly interested in who decided to think up something for themseleves instead of directly copying Synanon. Imagine if after all these years all these groups were still playing The Game.

I don't recall a "confession" rap in Straight. During the week, most blasting was done during girls or guys rap. On the weekends they saved it for the "Executive Rap" which I think was on Sunday. It was a good opportunity for lesser staff members to show off for the execs. The main raps to be concerned about were the Open Meeting Reviews. Anything and everything was fair game then. Even if you were confronted for something earlier in the week, chances were you would get blasted again after Open Meeting. It was the worst possible time to be in group.

I wonder if Open Meeting Reviews were anything like Progress Rap. All day Friday before Open Meeting was when we presented for our steps. Such a doomful feeling walking into the rap room first thing in the morning even if you believed that they had nothing to hold against you that week.

If I can recall correctly between normal raps there was Oldcomer/Newcomer Rap, Boys/Girls Rap, Dr. Vause's raps, Progress Rap, and Nightime Rap was usually the easier preparing for the host home raps. Of course they all could be Fess Up or Blast Rap's. One clinical held a Picnic Rap every time there were a few new Newcomers who would never be invited to the Picnic. I'm guessing he adopted that from Kids.

Most of the rap sessions you mentioned Velvet were on Sundays at the Plymouth MI Straight .. all the "bitch-out raps" were held Friday nights after Open Meeting, just to tell people how they sucked at their newcomer introductions, which most of us did because they wanted to have too many thing memorized and some people (like myself) were a bit stage fright.

Crazy! After Open Meeting (which could end at 10:00 pm or past 1:00 am) we just had "Talks" and then went to the host homes. Did Straight have Talks (telling parents incidents)? We sometimes got blasted the next day for bad behavior during Open Meeting, but usually it was saved until Monday Mornings Oldcomer/Newcomer raps, and then carry on during Dr. Vause's rap (I believe it was his only rap). It was more effective letting kids worry about getting blasted all weekend when they spent more time in Host Homes, then sending them home Friday night openly pissed off.

Yup.. we had Talk. If we earned it, and knew all 12 steps, serenity prayer and 5 criteria, not to mention some of the rules.. we could put in for it and most of the time earn it.

5 minutes was given on Friday nights and Mondays. Mondays was in the carpet room and Fridays were in the big warehouse.

So, if I earned "talk" I would be escorted to my parents, think about a past incident I wanted to discuss, share it with them, and they would have a minute or so to respond. And I got escorted "beltlooped" back into group.

If we earned "T&R" it meant that we got to clean the bathrooms! (oh joy!) they were called 'heads' like in the military. So it just meant that I didn't have to be in group and relate, motivate and talk.. so it wasn't too bad.
T&R was earned after Talk was earned. I spent about 6 months on 1st phase about 1 month on 2nd until I pulled myself out when I turned 18.. I graduated from H.S., went to nightschool for AutoCAD and I wish I had a job in that now.. but nothing close enough to home.. I now work as a customer service rep. for a highly reputable company (which I won't mention).

I love the dead and floyd. When it comes to real moving songs I love Tangerine that song can make me cry still. Also Dream on even though I am not an Arosmith (can't even spell the name) fan. I don't listen to rap on my own but my friends all love it and I have found a lot of the songs to be really intense. When the emotion and feelings are real it totally invades the song and you can feel it. A lot of rap has that quality and draws me in. Tangerine though, so great, and Scarlet Begonias makes me want to dance!! Ginger....Penn. you are getting close to me! Welcome to the neighborhood. Seen any Amish??
I swear if they weren't so damn opressive I would be amish (sp??) I want to drive a horse and buggy and commune with the earth. Take care you guys

LOL.. Amish people have a simplistic lifestyle.. but with all the computers and everything being so "high-tech" I don't think I could live without all that stuff.. unless of course I was to quit my job, and have some money set aside to build a house out in the middle of nowhere and not have electricity for a while.. but since that seems to be a bit unrealistic. I will just live in the city and work.. I wish I was rich though.. lol
