One of the places where I lived there
was a proposal to take a 3,000 square
foot house on the main street of a
100% residential are and make it
a group home for the Developmentally
Disabled.

There was massive protests and heated
city council meetings. The group home
people where determined to win over
the community. They stuck to their
guns, and made no mistakes in applying
for the permit. They won.

Within 3 months they won over the
community. In such a way that letters
to the editors started showing up
and saying hey these people are trying
hard and doing well.

They where pretty dependent though,
and their walks where always accompanied
by a staff member. As well as taking
care of the yard. Always a staff member.

Then people went back to the city council
and apologized and stated that they where
impressed.

Then after about six months the local
newspaper published an editorial and
stated that the community was won over
and had turned a leaf and was now
proud to have them, and happy to assist
in any way necessary.

Then letters came in to the editor thanking
the paper for writing the community sentiments.

---

I, for one, never expected this outcome and
was pleasantly surprised.

I too learned alot, and am grateful for
the exposure!
