Privacy in the restrooms or host home bathrooms
« on: August 06, 2005, 01:52:00 PM »
from the ODADAS letter posted in this thread: http://fornits.com/wwf/viewtopic.php?to ... forum=25&3

Quote
To the allegation of no privacy in restrooms, ODADAS says:

The agency reports that new clients or "newcomers" are supervised while utilizing the bathroom to ensure their safety (prevent running away and self damaging behaviors). The agency has private bathroom stalls and newcomers are accompianied to the bathroom by peers ("oldcomers") who are in a more advanced phase fo the treatment program. Peers are in the larger bathroom area and can maintain verbal contact if necessary. In the host homes "oldcomers" supervise new clients by being near the bathroom and the door is open a small fraction. Agency reports that parents and clients have not filed any grievances about this practice and the clients and family member interviewed did not indicate any objection to this agency procedure.

KHK survivors, please, if you don't mind, comment on the above claim in the ODADAS letter. Is it true that as a "newcomer" or "first phaser" (not sure what term you use), in a host home you were allowed privacy in the bathroom, with the door open just a crack (how much?) and your "oldcomer" standing outside waiting for you? If not, could you request privacy and receive it?

The letter also seems to be saying that there was at least visual privacy in the bathrooms in the building, that even as a first phaser you could be out of anyone's sight in a bathroom stall. Is that accurate? Was the stall door open or closed?

Thanks for commenting, it is important.

Ginger, I meant to put this thread on the Kids Helping Kids forum. Could you move it, please? Thank you and sorry for the trouble.

Hello again,
I never received any form of prrivacy that the Odadas is describing in their "report"....When I was in KHK an oldcomer watched me shower and take a dump and pee. This was an probably still is a regular typical occurance at the khk foster Homes.
Also, at the building in Hebron, Kky the oldcomers were made to keep the bathroom stall doors opened while we were utilizing the facilities. So, in fact when one oldcomer may have been belt-looping two "newcomers" at the time the other "newcomer" could also watch ye go to the bathroom as well.
Very damaging experience at age 15, I must say.
