DATELINE TONIGHT: Chase Moody and Restraints
« on: July 31, 2005, 12:16:00 PM »
Forward:

Tonite, (Sunday, July 31) Dateline is supposed to air a piece about the tragic death of Chase Moody, who was restrained at On Track, a wilderness camp in Mason County, Texas. It should also include the stories of some other families
whose kids died in restraint here in Texas.

We thank these families so much for sharing their stories.  It is so iportant that parents and others be educated about the use of potentially deadly techniques to control children.

While we haven't seen a preview, don't know how the piece will play out, we certainly hope you will watch, and that if you feel it was a good piece, let Dateline know.

I saw it. Very sad.

If only there were evil people somewhere, insidiously committing evil
deeds, and it were necessary only to separate them from the rest of us and destroy them. But the line dividing good and evil cuts through the heart of every human being. And who is willing to destroy a piece of his own heart?

There was an actual video of three large adults holding a child of 14 down until she lost consciousness. One of the staffers looked like she weighed at least 250 pounds or more. They just left her there - then realized she was uncounscious and tryed CPR - to no avail. Unbelievable.

There is a principle which is a bar against all information, which is
proof against all arguments and which cannot fail to keep a man in
everlasting ignorance- that principle is contempt prior to investigation.

Chase was essentially "jumped" by 3 men and held on the ground for nearly 30 minutes. By the time the sheriff arrived, called for EMT help, Chase was dead. Traumatic asphyxiation. He choked on his own vomit.

Some of you might be interested in reading the entries in this guestbook from Chase's friends and family.

Chase was a great kid - very much loved and missed. Kudos to his dad (a lawyer who once represented Brown Schools) for seeking the truth and going public with his findings about restraint-related deaths.

God bless all the children.
