Americans suck.  I'll say it.  (not all of them, but enough that people notice)

Yeah, lets all say americans suck. All that does is alienate the ones with a brain from the rest of the world (which is what our administration would LOOOVE, so keep right on doing it!) and shove those who drink the punch even farther into the extreme.

A lot happened because of how stagnant we got and let our administration go fear mongering and taking rights away in the names of fighting meaningless battles against 'indecensy', for the 'sanctity of marriage' and the 'war on drugs'. So, yeah, its gonna be hard to rid ourselves of these problems until more people wake up - and its not helpful to go "omg u all suk!!1" or to hae a more 'refined', snooty insult.

Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster. For when you look long into an abyss, the abyss also looks into you.

Yes, but in Europe kids get their rights gradually.  They get their full adult rights at 18 but, for example, age of consent in some places can be as low as 13.  In Britain a kid can leave home at 16 and there is nothing a parent can do about it.  They can't imprison them or force them to go anywhere (false imprisonmant and kidnapping).  Probably the best place in Europe for kid's rights is Sweden.  It's good for political asylum too.  (And asylum seekers get free Swedish lessons - not that you need them because everybody speaks English).

The best way to rescue a child is to convince the parent that there are safer, less drastic measures to take (like an acute care facility or an out patient program)

It may be that our role on this planet is not to worship God, but to create him.

I am, by facts of birth, a "U.S. citizen". I do not think all Americans suck, and I rather like -- as much as I can know and like someone by the internet -- people like Nihilanthic who seem to really see a lot of the problem.

I am becoming very frustrated with people rolling over for the Govt. Talking about laws and consequences and the impossibility of a rescue network for these kids.

Please see the following link to better understand my frustration with petitions. I did in fact sign the petition. I'm not against it, I just think it is pretty lazy:

I think more direct action like protests, like the way the gay community came out in full force to support the child who was locked in a program for being gay, would be good.

Sometimes in hopeless custody battles, one parent simply figures out a way to get themselves and their child on a plane and go to a safe foreign country. For some reason New Zealand comes to mind.

I appreciate Timoclea's post with practical suggestions on this sort of thing. Now we are getting somewhere.

The Govt and The Law is HURTING CHILDREN and AIDING AND ABETTING CHILD ABUSE. Ignore it, stand up to it, and circumvent it whenever possible. Weaken it by ignoring it. Quit depending on the whole System of subjugation.

May I gently suggest that people turn off their televisions and start writing letters or talking to their neighbors about all the things that concern them. May I suggest that they turn in one of their fancy cars and live in less fancy houses so one parent can stay home, and pull their child out of the public school system. Everyone should really be doing that now that they are mandating the mental health screening. If you don't want the Government messing with your kids, then don't send them off to a Government facility for eight hours a day! If you yourself really can't afford to homeschool, team up with like-minded people in your community.

You don't need a visa to go to France.  You don't need a passport to go to Bahamas (or Jamaica)- just a birth certificate.

Bonus- drinking age in Europe is 15, maybe 16, and rarely enforced.

Niles, are you really only 20?

Yep. Whys that such a surprise?

ANYWAY, yeah, Im 20, but I have a mind and I USE IT. Theres no reason someone who is 20 should act like a child, is there?

We're all kids. Some choose to act grown-up.
