Second Chance - Memphis
« on: July 05, 2005, 01:09:00 AM »
My daughter was in Second Chance in Memphis in 1999 and I would really like to hear from anyone who was there firsthand.  Any feedback would be appreciated.  It was a very damaging experience for her and had limited therapeutic value.  I felt that I had no other options at the time and feared for her life.

Thanks for your feedback.

Okay, I'm registered now, so you can send a private response.  Any former SCers out there?

Second Chance is on the Facility Watch List of the International Survivors Action Committee. They might know other survivors of Second Chance. Thanks for posting here, Second Chance is a program that copied Straight, Inc. People here know about the damage that the Straight form of "treatment" does to people.

Just a little trivia, when Scotty and Jean Cassidy still lived in St. Pete they had a neighbor that lived across the street that was a biker. His tag on front of his truck said Arrive Stoned.

We were there during 93-94 for 13 months.
Results were very good and sobriety was maintained  for about 5 yrs.

Were you in there, or was it your child?

Your child obviously was not terrorized enough in Second Chance, or you failed to maintain your part in the terrorization in the years after. Follow your child everywhere, across the country if you have to, and it doesn't matter if they are of the age of majority now. Assure your child that you can and will always maintain control. The good news is that your child could be heading into some rough times while they figure out what was done to them. This will make them weak and needy, so be sure to exploit this. Have you heard of the Baker Act? It is a way for you to have your child locked up again. I suggest you look into it.

I'm unclear if you were in SC or your child.  Does your teenager (or you, if that was the case) maintain sobriety due to his/her experience in SC or due to maturitiy and other factors?  Just wondering.
