Anyone Else From 5515 Backlick Road ??
Hey Everyone, Arnie Levin Here! Saw some familiar names in some posts. I was in the program from '82-86. Spent 22 months as a client and 1 year or so on Jr. staff. Hope I wasn't a jerk to anyone, I believe I was one of the well liked staff members. Hey Scott B., Sorry you had a terrible time. I remember a couple times you got a hard time. Mike K., glad your life is cool. Sounds like it was just the program for you.

Me, I can only manage to go 6 years at a time before smoking some weed or drinking although I have been successful in the the computer industry and have a 13 year old son and a couple German Shepherds. Nice seeing some folks I knew. I can be reached by email at [email protected]  Peace Out!

ARNIE " Me, I can only manage to go 6 years at a time before smoking some weed or drinking "

So what, arnie?  The poiint is you say you have a son, dogs, a sucessfull job, and yet you seem to point this out like you are some failure or something.  I sincerely hope you aren't dragging around the program in your head as some measure of success or failure.  Sounds like you are doing just fine.  The next step is to take a critical look at what you went thru, and drop the baggage.  Good luck

Greg

Re: Anyone Else From 5515 Backlick Road ??
I find myself constantly drawn back to this site.  I didn't really think I had a bad experience in Straight.  But maybe I forgot alot of it.  I remember you Arnie, I always thought you were a good guy.  For me, straight was about 20 years ago.  I have changed a bit since then.  I stopped drinking in Apr 1990, maybe straight had something to do with it.  I knew when I finished straight I would drink again.  I had to do some things on my own time.  Straight definitely put my family through some sht.  It has not healed to this day.  I don't blame straight for my problems or give it any credit for my successes.  Hope anyone I offended will forgive me,

Bob Carnathan

Bob: "I am going to motivate later and have a song"

That's the Bob I remember! Still got your great sense of humor. It just wasn't your time to come into the program back then. From what I can recall you were in college and doing great. Straight kinda sucked you in because of your brother's involvement. How's your brother doing? Really glad to hear your doing cool. Arnie

Re: Anyone Else From 5515 Backlick Road ??
GregFL: "I sincerely hope you aren't dragging around the program in your head as some measure of success or failure." Thanks for your thoughts Greg. I didn't mean to come off like I was putting myself down but for me personally I just can't use at all, period. I like being high so much that it will just consume my life 24 hours a day and take control over me. I've been using for 26 years off and on and tried every trick in the book to somehow control my use to no avail. So for me the best thing to do is use the steps of the program, Straight, AA or NA. It's all the same and they do work for me. I've had way more clean time than using and I'm grateful for that. It was only a matter of time before I would have stuck a spike in my arm and fired up some raw. Life is good and I thank God everyday for that. Arnie

I just found this site, good to hear that some of you like Arnie & Bob are alive & kickin'.  I think Bob summed up my feelings pretty well when he said "I don't blame straight for my problems or give it any credit for my successes. Hope anyone I offended will forgive me."  I'm not sober anymore, but run my own company managing and booking bands out here in Colorado.  I've survived and feel good about where I am, hope the majority of you are as well.

Hi Alex, Bill Earnshaw, here. I remember you and I were there in Springfield at the same time. Many years have passed. We had a reunion last August, sorry you didn't know or whatever. Next one will be coming up in 2003. I am glad to see more people coming in and hope to read more of your posts soon. I was jamming with Scott last week up there at his place. Nothin special, just playing guitar and him playing drums. I am a PC recycler, so if you know where I can get old trash computers, etc... let me know. I mine gold out of them.  MG8

Don't know who this will reach, but Bill and Burt Boice are still going strong- Straight.  I graduated from West oint in 88 and am now a MAJ in the Army, married to another MAJ.  She is fighting in Iraq right now.  got three kids and in Germany.  burt is married and living in Seattle, expecting his first.  Would like to find out how others are doing- Padgetts, Tom Perrell, etc.  the group that moved from FLA to VA in '83. Wrtie sometime: [email protected].  -- Bill

Hi guys, I was in Springfield Straight frome October 84 to June 85. Happened upon this and many other "Straight" sights several months ago.
I can't believe how much I had forgotten, or tried to forget about. Twenty months in a bent, twisted, psychotic hell hole does tend to leave scars. It took 18 years to start being alright with me. To finally begin to leave behind all the quircks and ticks that had plauged me was a relief. Then I found all this information about that rehab I was in and what hit me right between the eyes for the first time was how truly ok I was. All those quircks and ticks were not mine after all. They were induced by Straight Inc.
Thank you all.

Sincerely
Mark Weaver

To All-
Bill Boice, and Burt are alive and doing fine.  I am in Germany, married to a MAJ who is fighting in Iraq and have three kids.  Burt is in Seattle, married, and still playing Jazz.  Both stayed straight and moving along fine.  I've got almost 16 years in the Army, looking for that 20. Hope all are well.
